Minneapolis-based saxophonist Peter Vircks is known for his distinctive and idiosyncratic sound that melds contemporary innovation, deep-rooted traditions and, according to the late King of the Saint Paul poets Mike Finley, "Sumptuous playing, and a sweetness of tone that will cause you to melt all over everything". Co-founding the celebrated electric jazz group Moveable Feast and leading both Midnight Love and the Peter Vircks Quartet, he has left a mark on the Minnesota music scene.
Over his career, Peter has co-written and toured internationally with Rhythmic Circus Productions’ award winning Off-Broadway show Feet Don't Fail Me Now and he's worked with many international, national, regional and local artists. A sampling of those highlights place him with St. Paul & The Minneapolis Funk All-Stars (featuring members of the Revolution, The Time and NPG), Yohannes Tona's band & Dibekulu, the legendary Dr. Mambo's Combo, the BZ3 Organ Trio, Dream Girl's star Jennifer Holiday's band, The Voice's Jesse Larson & MPLS, bassist Don Boyette, Funkytown singer Cynthia Johnson, Eric Gravatte's Source Code, bassist Anthony Cox, Star Search's Spencer Day, vocalist Bruce A. Henry, Togolese legend Jimi Hope, vocalist Ginger Commodore, CorVoce/Saint Paul Vocal Forum, American Idol's Reed Grimm, Davina & The Vagabonds and Brandon Commodore's NRG.
Peter's work is featured on 60 albums, including his own 2014 release "What You Believe Is True", which was made possible by a grant from the American Composers Forum and earned a place in Minnesota Public Radio's top ten jazz favorites that year. Recently, he was featured on "Ijo La Wa O", winner of the 2024 Mark Award: World / International Track Of The Year written by Brandon Commodore and Adetoyebi Adebanjo Adedipe.
